I am always leery of film production companies because the industry has a reputation for interesting accounting practices, and because film moguls are not necessarily pros at building shareholder value. My most recent bad experience was with Kushner-Locke, who are always involved in exciting and brilliant new projects, and are known for their reverse stock splits so as to avoid de-listing. Unapix (UPX) is not as bad as KLOC, but is a go nowhere stock. There are others. I'd be interested in hearing if anyone has had a good experience with the stock of a small, publicly-traded film/TV producer.
