If the rumors are correct, you should be able to build a system as follows by late April:

PII/266 & Motherboard $350
5 gig hard drive $199
24x CD-ROM $50
ATX Case $60
1.44 floppy drive $18
Keyboard $20
Mouse $20
Win95 $65
32 Meg memory $50
Video Card $40
56k Modem $50
Sound Card $40
Speakers $10

That's $972. The only thing I can't do today is the CPU and motherboard, but I could do the above as a socket 7 system for about $100 less (CPU, $79 motherboard and $30-$35 case).

The Micro Center demo system at $809 is a reasonable buy if socket 7 is ok, but I'm not buying or building any more socket 7 systems because I won't be able to upgrade them the way I will want to in the future.
