I am looking to do a Motherboard/CPU ugrade from my old
AMD 5x86-133Mhz, and am trying to decide on waiting for the 3D K6 or just getting a 233Mhz K6 now. Do you have info on the prices AMD will sell the 3D K6 at ?
Back to the investing side of AMD:
I have been following the the stock for over a year (when I got into investing) and have been tempted to get some call options on several occasions (Boy am I glad I did'nt). However, I am still bullish on AMD's future, I love their products (max. performance for the price). Actually I have never owned an Intel CPU ! Anyway, the key for the stock's rise is obviously AMD's return to profitability, and the main factor for profitability I feel is solving the yield problems. Hence:
1. Do you know the current status of the yield issue ? They should do a press release when the major problems are solved and they are getting the originally anticipated yield amounts, should't they?
2. Is the yield problem limited to the .35 micron process, or does the .25 micron process also have yield problems? If SDC is currently the only one producing at .25um, do we know if there are yield problems at SDC?
3. The new FAB in Germany, when is it expected to go online? I assume it is built for the .25micron process so ther is no conversion, is this correct? What is the estimated date to convert the Austin TX FAB to the .25um process? Excuse my igorance, but does AMD have any other full FABs other than the 2 at Ausin and Germany, SDC I am told is just an engineering development center. Also, I am not counting the use of IBM's FABs, it isn't good to be at someone elses mercy.
