As of the end of February, the latest version of Starship Troopers was not a "game" yet. All you could do was roam around the terrain and be frightened by hordes of aliens approaching. Graphically, the version I saw was awesome. But if the game is out before the holidays, I'll be satisfied. Q2 seems a little early. Ultimate Civ had a few bugs in it when I demo'd it as well. They weren't at all sure they would have it out by the end of May. It seemed they could not commit to how long it might take to get seven players moving smoothly, and there is no way the game will sell unless the multiplayer flows. I'm certain it will be out before too long, late Q1 probably, certainly by early Q2. May 1 would be great, and I'm sure the company wants one major title out in Q1 by earnings. But I wouldn't count on it in terms of relying on it to make my investment sound.
A very positive note on Starship Troopers is that the engine used can be leveraged, according to the producer, into non related games seamlessly. As I said, the graphics are fantastic, and with this leveraging, MPRS should be able to put games out faster in the future, which is what we all know the company really needs to do to be successful for more than a short period at a time. For instance, like what happened after Jan 97 when they announced a profit and then did not release more than a game a quarter for a long time.
Switching to Coy... have you an updated titles shipped estimate on Worms 2? It seems to be picking up steam. |
