There's one notion that anybody interested in AOL should put to rest right now: the advantage AOL has enjoyed controlling development of both the client and server software is about to end. Since they made no effort whatsoever to provide for third-party development, AOL is going to be swept away without the slightest hint of a struggle.

The legions, nay, armies of developers currently developing software for Windows '95 and Windows NT will be generating seamless software that will allow internet based programs to look and feel just like standard Windows applications. Forget a multi-billion dollar company like Microsoft competing with you, we are talking about trillions of dollars of development effort targeted toward Windows based internet computing.
