Sorry, I just had to respond. A lot of money was not guaranteed (more than just over $100,000). Yes, I do know people that lost over $30,000 in Lincoln savings (all they had invested) because they were in non-insured bonds. They were getting relatively high yields (around 11%) and obviously underestimated the risk. If you remember the trial of the head guy (forget his name) there were quite old people saying very unkind things as they contended that they were lied to and were assured their investments were insured.
