Yun-Xin,

You do have a valid concern over Sun's new offerings that will be supported solely on Solaris. The SunOS support is one big reason to buy a Ross product over a Sun. If you remove that from the equation by committing to Solaris it hurts the Ross argument.

Pentium Pro probably does hit a low price/performance point for Solaris. It comes as no surprise that it is hard to install. Why would Sun want give up all those hardware sales?

A Ross SPARCPLUG system may give the pentium pro a run for it's money though. And there you would have the advantage of being able to continue to run your Windows NT/95 software on the PC portion and have the SPARCplug do all the solaris stuff. It's a neat idea for a product but it remains to be seen how well it will take off.

I also don't want to give the impression that I think Ross is the safest investment. The company is definitely going through a transition phase. Whether or not they can execute their business model and make the sale on the SPARC systems level remains to be seen. Sun is a very big company with lots of $$$ to throw behind marketing. And as I'm sure we would all agree, the technically best product doesn't always prevail in the market. We'll see what happens I guess...
