The Dutch PC magazine was mistaken. Guardian (when configured correctly) DOES guard against this attack. Guardian denies everything except what you EXPLICITLY allow. It also provides filtering capabilities for ALL well known ports; in addition it allows you to define any of the ports between 1 and 64,000 something, and place rules on them.
