I guess I could have countered at the level of his post with a statement like "you're wrong if you're not long", or something like that?

I'm not sure anyone can use that phrase anymore. I have heard rumors that Pfizer may obtain a trademark on "You're wrong if you're not long" as part of its marketing campaign for Viagra.
