Smith Barney probably means the PC100 SDRAMs. I have heard
from my friends in the industry that Intel is a bit worried
about the supply of 64Mb DRAM's which meet the PC100 specs.
More specifically the tAC=6ns spec.

They of course don't want these RAMs to have any premium over
regular 64Mb parts (god-forbid someone other than Intel make
any money on PCs) otherwise the box makers won't make as
many boxes with there high priced / high profit margin new
450/400/350Mhz Pent-II's with the BX chipset.

Since this 100Mhz motherboard systems will sell at AUP's around
$3000-$2500 and offer only 20% performance improvments (at
best on the most CPU intensive applications) over run of the
mill 300Mhz/66Mhz bus $1500 systems you can imagine demand
for these will be weak till the Fall when Intel goes through
its traditions pre-Xmas price cutting.

At which time I imagine PC100 parts will be awash in the market
all going for rock bottom prices.

Look for 64Mb PC100 or any part for that matter ASP's to be in
$7 range by late Summer or Fall, f they don't get there sooner.
BTW $7 is about the marginal cost with 0.25um wafers.
