didn't quite understand your post.

are you saying that APM was smart to make money on dying TFI technology while RDRT frittered its money away writing off TFI and doing R&D on MR, and still can't make a profit on MR?

Why can't APM just hire away knowledgeable MR engineers? is there a trade secret law suit to prevent such occurences?

Why can't APM license IBM's MR and GMR technology instead of having to develop it themselves? does it require new production equipment?

What is the limiting factor for developing these MR heads to production quality?

BL
ps
i know only what i read on these threads, and the annual rdrt report, which explained the technology of MR/GMR, but not the complexity of development and production.

oh yeah, what are good yield rates for TFI/MR/GMR programs?

iomega jaz/jaz2 still uses tfi heads, and zip uses MIG heads. The Castlewood Orb uses MR heads. geez, removable 2.1 gig disk for $29!

that means the 2.1 platter has an ASP about $9-10,right?
