Cisco is starting to kick some serious butt here. It's going to take a long time to get rid of the old 600 ohm balanced audio voice networks but it is starting to happen.

Yes they are - kicking butt that is. And yes, you're right, it's going to take decades to churn the PSTN, however this old and tired circuit switched based environment is so damn huge that even a 5% penetration would represent billions of $$$ in incremental revenues. Folks point to Cisco's size and say "there's no way they can keep growing at a 30%-50% clip (revenues)", but add the PSTN churn and you can begin to see why Chambers said Cisco is a $20B company by 2000.

I really am going to enjoy the fight with NT and LU coming up.

It's going to be a battle - especially with LU who appears to be very aggressive. Cisco should do very well. The key will be implementation of new technology. Yes, innovation is important, but that's a small part of the battle. The winner will be able to capatilize on innovation (regardless of where it came from) by delivering value added solutions to thier constiuents.

The implementers of the best and widest technology solutions will take home the prize! You and I know who that will be.

Ah!. I see you've echoed my very same thoughts. You are 110% right Eric! The IMPLEMENTERS will take home the prize.... and Cisco has indeed shown a knack for this. ;)
