Spots,

Firstly, let me apologize for dumping all over you... I was still fuming from being sucked in by an imposter.

In fact, that's what the duplicate names permit: imposters. This is not a matter of two people wanting to have the same tag name. The problem is, imposters are frequently nasty and usually smart enough to stay on the right side of the line to avoid being ejected. I just consider all this a problem which is easily solved with a minimum imposition to the participants: implement unique names.

BTW, I discovered the imposter via a post from another person pointing out the problem. Yes, I did apologize to the correct poster. The truth is, SI is not anarchy... there are rules to be followed. It is highly inefficient to have to click each person's profile every time to see whose comments I'm reading. Perhaps if we were each given an account number which printed next to our name, that would suffice to distinguish between duplicates.
