One of the ways analysts are judged is by their opinion change. Unfortunately the numbers are screwy because they use the price of the stock based on the close of the previous day. In other words if the Merrill Lynch analyst upgrades SLB today, he is in effect making the call at Friday's close for his bonus and ranking relative to his peers. Now if all of us could go backwards in time and buy Friday's close we would be a lot happier.

Anyway, this is one reason you see a flurry of analyst opinions on major moves up or down in a stock.

Pay attention to _earnings_ changes more than opinion changes.
