<<I am looking to do a Motherboard/CPU ugrade from my old AMD 5x86-133Mhz, and am trying to decide on waiting for the 3D K6 or just
getting a 233Mhz K6 now. Do you have info on the prices AMD will sell the 3D K6 at ?>>

If can't wait then get the 0.35um 233MHz for $140 and a 100MHz board for $130 from ABIT. Then overclock the K6-233 to 250Hz at 2.5X clock multiplier. My K6-233 system runs at 250MHz on 83MHz bus at 3.5X multiplier. You can reuse the hard drive, floppy, graphic, etc. If you are willing to wait till the summer and would want to spend more money then get the K6-3D 300MHz with 100MHz board. It will not be cheap. I suspect that AMD will try to get $250 for the K6-3D 300MHz but the retailers would probably jack it up to $350.

<<1. Do you know the current status of the yield issue ? They should do a press release when the major problems are solved and they are getting the originally anticipated yield amounts, should't they?>>

I heard rumors any where from 50% to 80% yield out of FAB25. We should hear more about it at AMD conference call on Apr 7.

<<2. Is the yield problem limited to the .35 micron process, or does the .25 micron process also have yield problems? If SDC is currently the only one producing at .25um, do we know if there are yield problems at SDC?>>

AMD admitted to the yield problem on 0.35um but didn't say anything on the 0.25um except that it is on schedule. AMD release news back a few months ago that they are shipping 0.25um out of SDC. Don't know what the yield at SDC is. Rumors anyone??

<<3. The new FAB in Germany, when is it expected to go online? I assume it is built for the .25micron process so ther is no conversion, is this correct? What is the estimated date to convert the Austin TX FAB to the .25um process? Excuse my igorance, but does AMD have any other full FABs other than the 2 at Ausin and Germany, SDC I am told is just an engineering development center. Also, I am not counting the use of IBM's FABs, it isn't good to be at someone elses mercy.>>

FAB in Germany suppose to be in production mid-1999. I think they either start at 0.25 or 0.18um. AMD said that FAB25 will be 100% 0.25um by year end. FAB25 is the only 8" fab AMD has.
