Jan,

Perhaps it would be more appropriate to address Anindo's questions - or statements than it would be to mention his background. Let's pull ourselves above the level of national politics...

Anindo, to address your comments. I agree that there may be other products out there, however FORE is not an ATM WAN switch, and YURI's products are access oriented - CPE.. LU is building thier own products, but it may be more cost effective in the long run to simply buy the market presence via ASND. After all ASND is the only real player out there that LU could reasonably purchase. ASND has a product and has relatively good presense with the domestic RBOC's...and has been making some progress with these switches overseas as well. The only question is, is LU willing to fork over $8B for this company?

Perhaps LU would be better off with an ailing company with a product they could build on. GDC comes to mind - Apex switch is old, but could it be turned around? GDC has a market cap of only $120M and has a carrier product and presence... what about NN. They got hammer and have a cap of about $5B. This company has a far broader product line than ASND and has a HUGE installed base worldwide.... Hmmmmmmm, makes you think. As I go through this, thinking out loud, you begin to think that $8B for ASND is probably not a good move given other opportunities out there. Comments?
