John, you're right, waiting till next year is an eternity for a trader. I wouldn't call myself a trader - I'm more of a singles hitter. I go for a single and maybe try to steal second (anywhere from 10 - 25%) on a stock that I feel is a solid long term investment. In this way I don't feel so bad if the trading range goes against me. I rarely sell for a loss and I don't go short. All stocks seem to have wide ranges. I protect myself against strikeouts by avoiding the news/hype stocks. I won't feel uncomfortable sitting on VLSI for the next few quarters. My cost is about 18 and change (bought at 20 and added more at 17 3/8). This is my second ride with VLSI - I got out with 22% the last time. I'm comfortable that even if we fall below 17 (no matter how low) the stock will turn. Of course all bets are off if significant news about the company changes my long term outlook (I doubt this will happen). I know I've missed quite a few home runs with my approach but then again I haven't struck out too many times either. I guess I've got spring fever. Happy investing, Joe C.
