The worst part about the yr2k problem is that it feeds right into the irrational fears about the "end of the millenium" (read "end of the world" to some hysterical elements). Separating the wheat from the chaff will get trickier and trickier as we proceed.

Even buying new hardware and software to handle the yr2k problem doesn't address the conversion to the "new" system problems that will be endemic. Lots of good work happening in the next few years.
