Re "Duke truly collapsed": Tubby Smith may be better X's and O's tourney coach than Pitino. He certainly defensed the long pass on last play of game better than Pitino did in '92 when he had Feldhaus and Pelfrey stand at free-throw line and watch as Laettner caught a 50-foot pass, pivot and calmly shoot from 17 feet. Game was a complete reversal of what I thought it would be. Thought that Mohammed and Magloire would be effective against Duke's front line, especially defensively. Not the case. Only scored 10 points between them and had but one blocked shot. Thought that if Kentucky had a chance to win it would be a matter of jumping in front early and hanging on. Thought that Duke's backcourt would be difference in game. Instead, Turner and Sheppard combined for 34, with Turner also handing out 8 assists. Lack of timeouts at end was obviously a factor, but Coach K was quoted as saying that had he not taken them when he did, Duke could have been down 8 at end instead of just 2.
