SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 23, 1998--Patriot Scientific Corporation (OTCBB: PTSC), the developers of the first market-ready microprocessor for Java(TM), today announced that its JavaOne demonstration this week in San Francisco will feature a network computer reference platform built around the company's PSC1000 Java processor.
A low cost, high performance processor, PSC1000(TM) Java applications include Internet-enabled information kiosks, cell phones, video phones, embedded Web servers, network computers, set-top boxes and a host of other new Internet appliances. The microprocessor sells for under $10 in high volumes and is available in 5 volt and low power 3.3 volt versions. Patriot has licensed and ported JavaSoft's JavaOS(TM) and Java Virtual Machine(TM) to the PSC1000.
"Our PSC1000's architecture is ideally suited to run Java and the network computer demonstration is the perfect medium to illustrate the range of capabilities of our microprocessor," said Phil Morettini, vice president, sales and marketing for Patriot. "With a lower transistor count and a fundamentally different and simpler design, PSC1000 is perfect for high-volume, low power applications."
The PSC1000, a 32-bit microprocessor based upon Patriot's patented ShBoom(TM) technology, is designed to provide economic solutions for the growing number of new Java applications as well as the traditional embedded systems markets. The network computer reference design will be available to OEM manufacturers who wish to build Java-based appliances using the PSC1000.
Founded in 1987, Patriot Scientific Corporation designs, manufactures and markets: the PSC1000, based on the patented ShBoom technology, a 32-bit microprocessor targeted at the Java and Internet appliances as well as the traditional embedded systems markets; high-performance ISDN Basic Rate and Primary Rate products for digital communications; and ground-penetrating radar and ionized gas antenna technologies.
