Wholesale Advance Orders Up 23%

SAN LEANDRO, Calif., March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The North Face, Inc. (Nasdaq:
TNFI - news) today reported continued growth in its wholesale business, with advance
orders for the Fall/Winter 1998 season up 23% over advance orders for the same period
in 1997. These orders typically ship during the third and fourth quarters of the year.

''Wholesale demand for our products continues to be strong,'' said William N. Simon,
President and Chief Executive Officer, ''as evidenced by the growth in advance orders.
The strongest categories include Tekware(R), our 100% synthetic sportswear collection,
including fleece, knit tops and pants; outerwear, especially Gore-Tex shells, down

synthetic sleeping bags; technical accessories; and women's products across all
