Comverge doesn't have a problem of transmission speeds. Their current PLC tech. allows data transfers of an older regular modem (~12Kbs). They're already working on faster modems (I think ~50Kbs).
At thei current field tests they're sending out a reading every 10-15 minutes, so the problem you cited is not existent.

I agree, however, that the technology from Lucent will help them take even a larger part of the market. I'll post (later on) info on how exactly the Lucent tech. will help them.
