*AV*--RUMORS for your information.

1. AMD in Austin, TX has been having intermittent yield problems over the past few quarters. This has not come as a surprise to anyone nor was it that big a secret. HOWEVER, the problem seems to have been finally isolated to a specific cleaning process. Apparently previous attempts with DOE (Design of Experiments) was not able to catch it since it was, after all, an intermittent problem. Well it seems that last week they finally found the culprit and traced it back to a cleaning process. No guarantees that another problem is not uncovered but the likelihood is very low. What are the odds of two problems occurring simultaneously and in the same identical intermittent frequency.

2. ALYD to report quarterly earnings by end of March and will probably have positive news relative to their South African business prospects coming real soon.

3. Long Island Savings Bank is courting suitors for a merger that is supposed to bring a $75-$80 price within the next few weeks.

4. ADPT might be at it again with another use for their corporate credit card. Let's hope that the luck associated with March helps them.

5. ISSX is to be this week's hottest IPO.

6. PWJ and SAMC have been reported to be the subject of takeovers in numerous internet newsletters. SAMC has made a good run and is now being dumped on quite heavily by the street. recent news has been mixed with some good and some not so good. This special dividend deal has me confused along with announcing they are looking for a 50% equity partner, it seems.

7. Analog type devices are looking real good these days as well as other Analog design/manufacture companies. Is it a coincidwnce that MXIM, ADI and PAIR are either performing or are being talked about on the street??? I think not. The time for higher Analog content for devices looks to be now. Mixed signal content seems to be growing at a dramatic rate over the past year as seen by the shift in mix at Symbios and the increasing wireless communications market. Those companies capable of providing mixed signal functionality may be in great demand. Look at the businesses all three are involved in. I think we may even see some "interesting" situations unfold at one of these companies that will result in the sale of some of their technology such that another company might be better positioned to implement Analog functionality.

Andrew

BTW-my lunacy yesterday only cost me a 1/4 point. I wasn't paying attention to DRQ and did not see it run to 34 before the close. Got out at 33.75 at the open today. It just confirmed. Whew!!! I was losing sleep over that mistake.
