Ascend sells to the end user marketplace primarily along with Internet Service Providers. Their products are low-cost, feature rich, and designed for the branch office to home office tie-in market.

Adtran's products are more conservative, costly, and designed for the more rugged requirements of a telephone central office or equipment room. Overall, Ascend's frenetic pace deserves a much higher PE multiple than does Adtran, a fine little company but not the market leader type that Ascend is.
