The only thing a prevent defense does is prevent you from winning. Intel is so afraid of getting into lower margin businesses, they limit their ability to grow revenues in a meaningful way. In contrast, Microsoft is not afraid to get into a business even if they have to give away their product for free (i.e., MS Explorer). 'tis better to have loved and lost, rather than never to have loved at all. C'mon guys, I'm not saying bet the ranch - Merced is a no brainer and investing in little start-ups is no big deal either. Strike while the iron is hot. Getting into coms (bandwidth) could be pretty exciting, no? Buyout Ascend, Westel, or one of the baby bells - live a little. Or more seriously build an advanced fibre optic network using IP technology on a global scale. Connect those billion connected PC's. Don't wait for the telephone companies to do it - they will never get it done. Regards, Mary
