There were some idyllic times in the late '60s, Penni and I were musing about this via e-mail last year. Bobby Kennedy and ML King's shootings were just events that punctuated the times, but they paled in the shadow of JFK's assassination. Taht one made you remember exactly where you were when you heard the news, there hasn't been anything like it since. Our folks compared it only with FDR's death.

Watergate was fascinating, but the oil crisis probably affected our lives far more. In fact, you might say that the oil crisis, inflation, and (God forbid!) disco and polyester are what truly killed the idyll.
