Jfred,

I can't argue whether or not the northern rocks hold more energy because I really don't know if they do. They keep telling us that the Hayward fault is going to go any day now or at least sometime in the next 30 to 100 years. I know also that much of the SF Bay area was built on fill which was put in after the 1906 quake.

Did Parkfield ever rock 'n' roll? We kept watching and waiting but nothing ever happened during the expected timeframe. I know the watching and waiting did a lot for Parkfield's economy. Lots of tourists went there for the event, in addition to the geotech folks. I would never figure that as a tourist attraction, but apparently it was.
