I have heard anecdotal evidence of OP-1's effectiveness.

The company I work for has done work for CBM and another company we work for invested in CBM. While I don't haveaccess to inside info about OP-1's effectiveness on bone repair, I often ask orthopoedic surgeons about their experience with it. Most say they don't have experience with it, but one surgeon said that one of his cases had 2 autografts done - they both failed - and then tried OP-1 and it worked. I think it was a tibular fracture, but that memory is fuzzy.

Biogen hasn't said much about OP-1, even since the positive early data about its effectiveness on renal indications was published last fall. Hirulog and Gelsolin as recent examples of Biogen products with relatively high profiles that quietly disappeared off the PR radar, and maybe that is what is happening with OP-1 as well. But, then it could be that it is too early in the clinical process to warrant discussion.

I think Rocketman is right in his assessment of CBM as a risky one-product company. I think they have a good shot at approval, but then there are always considerations that can delay approval. And it remains to be seen whether higher levels of OP-1 can be tolerated in humans for other indications that cannot be so easily targeted as bone fractures. Renal disorders would require higher, more frequent doses, as I would assume the spinal cord healing indication would as well. CBM is probably worth the risk, but it is a crapshoot.
