The IEEE article was very good. I have a friend at ORBI who told me that boaters can already buy the Magellan OrbComm sets at West Marine. I'm a sailor, so will be looking at one, if it is not too expensive. The IEEE article mentioned the emergency message feature for cars. With an OrbComm messager, you can activate it an an emergency locator anywhere in the country. I can envision the day when such a thing would be standard equipment, for road breakdowns, stolen cars, etc.
