Crude, silver and refrigerators are commodities also, and in the strictest sense of the word, I suppose a bare bones pc could be categorized similarly. But the fact is that there are a number of configurations which are specific to application needs. We don't really order refrigerators with net connection cards (to control temperatures or ice making remotely) or video cards to display the various temperature control setpoints and targets do we? Therefore, I would argue that as long as we have a multitude of applications for PCs; and therefore, a number of configuration possibilities, that categorizing a PC as a commodity is a bit premature.
