A General question for the experts!!!

When a company starts buying back its shares I'm assuming those shares are taken out of the market. Hence the company will try and buy the shares for the lowest price they can get but look to the future in terms of the demand outstripping supply. They are hoping the money they have spent on buying the shares will be transferred into a higher stock price at a later date - Right or Wrong.
