Peter, This was the CEO of Western Digital, not AMPEX. I'm not saying that that is good news, just not as bad as you thought. It is possible that he was being strategically ignorant, but I couldn't tell. By the way, I searched around the net yesterday for technical information on keepered media, and found only a couple of references in the academic realm, and then not much detail. There was much more hype about AXC, here in SI and of course on the Individual Investor site. Can anyone point me to a technical (I'm a physicist) discussion of the keepering technology? Thanks in advance, William Isaacs
