My Cd-R works beautifully.

I just loaded up my E-Mu sampler with 32MB worth of sounds from my new mail-ordered CD, and my old Phillips 8x external Cd-Rom reads the Sony Gold Cd-R disc like a charm. So much for compatibility concerns. So now I'm interested in getting my own CD-R burner. No need for any Iomega products!
