RESEARCH ALERT-Mexican bottling companies
MEXICO CITY, March 25 (Reuters) - Interacciones brokerage upgraded its rating on Mexican bottler Grupo Continental (Contal) (GCN.MX) to buy from hold and downgraded bottler Argos (ARGb.MX) to speculative buy from strong buy, the brokerage said on Wednesday.
Both companies bottle Coca-Cola (KO - news) soft drinks.

Analyst Gregory Rianhard said Contal was being upgraded following recent price weakness in its shares.

He said Argos was being downgraded due to doubts over whether it will be able to sell two franchise territories for the $120-$130 million it paid for them last year.

Argos is being forced to sell the franchises because it bought them without permission from the Coca-Cola Co., which usually gives first choice on franchises to its anchor bottlers. In Mexico, its anchor bottlers are Coca-Cola Femsa (KOF - news) and Panamerican Beverages (PB - news).

Shares of Contal were up 10 centavos to 28.0 pesos in midday trade on Wednesday, while Argos shares were off 14 centavos to 9.96 pesos.
