Kevin, <This is all meaningless.> How about this:

news.com
"Although the
100-MHz system bus is yet to be
released, it will likely have a short
life, industry pundit Michael Slater
said at Microsoft's WinHec
Conference."

"Slater, a keynote speaker at the
conference and the founder of
MicroDesign Resources, said that by
1999 Intel will likely move to a
200-MHz system bus for its high-end
chips with Katmai, the next
generation of Intel processors."

------ comments:

I am not sure all PC-makers will cheer
this rate of "innovation" from chip
leader...

First, all 100MHz efforts are in the trash,
no ROI;

Second, 200-MHz layout would
be painfully hard to manufacture and
support. Most likely, many components
will need new impedance-matching re-design.

Third, it looks like a confirmation that
the 100Mhz does not help the P-II
"marketecture", so they need something
faster to show some system speed-up.

Forth, they are hanging up a new carrot
for customers, who most likely will adjourn
their upgrades decisions...
