What drives Jobs to become Apple CEO ? - Ego: he wants to prove that he was ousted out of Apple wrongly - Probably not money. He is already a billionaire, and he could probably earns more, and with less hassle by founding his own company, or by leveraging Pixar - make the next insanely great thing. Like he did once with Apple, once and a half with Next and twice with Pixar. But what will be next? Certainly not to wait to see any increase in PowerPc Mhz. Maybe to see Rhapsody become a major player, but there is a hard way to go, and it is a bit technical. Computer is more and more looking like a mature industry. I feel S. Jobs want to output a great new consumer device, that will spread anywhere. He will stay in Apple to do that, if he thinks he has the freedom to. He really doesn't want to manage inventories and plan obsolescence a la Intel or microsoft. Wether he will succeed is not guaranteed, since Apple and himself aren't very experienced in this field. So I don't think the absence of decision can be related to the quarter performance
