George, Mark Haines, CNBC announcer, today stated that Dow 9000 was a given event and that a 3 hour special was planned to commemorate this historic event. What audacity, I would love to see him have to eat his words.

Speaking of the gold market, in late 1995 and early 1996 the gold price traded between 380 and 390. This may have been kept in a tight range due to call writing by central banks. The longer that the gold price trades in the 290 to 300 range without a breakout or breakdown makes me suspect that in some manner they are repeating this behavior now. Just a thought.
