Ray, it's a Paradigm Shift, ie. the New Wave in communications due in part to the deregulation bill of 1996, and advancements in technology to bring quality more affordable voice over the net at a tremendous savings to the end-user.
A new way to combat the telco giants, which are now begining to pair up with various VOIP providers (Deutch Telecom+VOCLF, Motorola+NSPK,etc.) They do not want to miss the Big Piece of Pie, which these cos. are going to make over the traditional cost of POTS=plain old tele service.
Long story really and a primer would be nice but, the picture is enormous.
