Exactly right! People also look for trendlines which have been successfully tested for the last 3-4 times, but the next test is random. It can take people years to finally understand this concept. Investing on technical analysis - I'm talking about things like trendlines, pennants, oscillators, and divergences - is appealing since you don't have to do any research. However, it doesn't provide much of an edge.
