One always has to be concerned about the possible of infection in any invasive procedure. However, the important thing to do is stabilize the patient and then address the other concerns. If the patient doesn't make it, then the rest doesn't matter. Many times trauma patients arrive in the trauma bay with gross wound contamination. Our initial goal is to resuscitate the patient and in order to accomplish that IV access is required. I feel this product is a very good concept and if works as described should help save lives.
