hi jim,

OT

100 modems?!?!

v90 is pretty new. Most modems are K56 flex (rockwell) standard or x2 the US Robotics standard. The only v90 manufactures I know of are Zoom and 3Com/USR but my information may be out of date. You might want to buy a good USR x2 modem with flash upgrade capability and let the bugs settle out.

Here are some sites you might find helpful:

v90 standard

pathfinder.com

v90.com

Here's a glimmer from the sight:
At the moment, we are only aware of two major brand name companies shipping V.90 modems, 3COM and Zoom. Unfortunately, PC World reports that soon after 3COM began shipping, bugs were discovered which left some USR V.90 modems unable to connect in X2 mode to some servers. (Hey! What about all those press releases about interoperability testing??? and being first to ship V.90!) It appears that 3COM missed testing with some of their own server firmware and with some Bay Networks servers. Hopefully this snafu will soon get resolved. This being the state of affairs, we recommend buying a Zoom V.90 modem now, buying a 3COM when the interoperability problem is solved, or buying a Diamond Supra or Hayes V.90 modem when they become available.

Hmmm.. look at zoom. the stock that is.

It has been my experience for years that USR is of higher quality than Zoom. No holy wars, zoom guys.

And here is a v90 story to ponder: x8.dejanews.com
