don't know how you arrived at this from my post, but that is what I think. You may hear people say that the Merced would be overkill for the personal desktop, but then again those same people said that 2mb of memory was overkill just 8 or 9 years ago. Things are moving much faster now than they were back then.

No, I mean technically. Do you think they'll be able to overcome the limitations of the cpu as currently outlined in order to be able to put it in a desktop/deskside form factor? How long do you think before it will be price/performance competitive with x86? How long before somebody wraps their brain around a compiler that will do it justice? How long before you can afford a cpu with >50M transistors? Power consumption? Have you really thought about all the issues, or are you extrapolating from INTC past performance?
