Your had some interesting replies to your message. I would like to make some observations about the possibilities.. 1. Is this in US West territory? I don't think so. The rules were specific that a bell company could not bid in their territory, but they could bid in another territory. So I don't think they are sitting on this to protect their interests. 2. "Further development" may mean development of infrastructure pior to "deployment" (selling the service). Might be reaching....... The statement could be too political.... 3. "should LMDS offer the right fit for our customers.'' Translation - We haven't finished doing a market survey analysis of what to shove through this big pipe, and how much we can charge for it. Why isn't this completed? Why don't they know? 4. The person doing the announcement doesn't know what to make of LMDS, and is being very careful. He secretly thinks it could be a Timithy Leary creation......... 5. They are playing cat and mouse with some strong competition in the areas purchased. Why tell them what they are going to do? 6. Individual didn't know they were in the auctions, and doesn't know what to think about this surprise. Now they want a strategic plan from me?! 7. They bought this stuff just in case it is worth something so they won't look stupid in the future The gentleman making the announcement is vice president of Strategic Planning. Perhaps we should think about a quote from "The Rise and Fall of Strategic Planning" - "Planners shouldn't create strategies, but they can supply data, help managers think strategically, and program the vision." Sounds like management isn't ready to clearly program the vision. It is hard to be positive some time. This is one of them. NW
