I also don't wish to start any flame wars here... However: using ODBC as a proclaimed "OPEN" database connectivity standard is a bit much.

Microsoft established ODBC in response to another standard which had been proposed and had multi-vendor support. They endorsed ODBC because THEY controlled it, not the DB Committee. Microsoft also paid lip service to other database formats such as Paradox... not many people have been able to get native Paradox tables read and write access. This is all well known... it's closed because Microsoft controls it.

Enuf said... nothing said here will change what's actually happening in the marketplace.
