<<QED said its RM5230 RISC chip is a 64-bit MIPS microprocessor with a 32-bit system bus interface designed to provide high performance at an
affordable price for consumer applications. Its superscalar instruction issue
architecture significantly increases processor efficiency and performance,
according to the sever-year-old company.

Some analysts believe the processor is well suited for consumer products.
"The RM5230 is a good fit for many new high-end consumer electronics
products that are driving innovation in this industry," said Jim Turley, senior
analyst for Microprocessor Report in Sebastopol, Calif. "It's as fast as a
good desktop PC but uses a fraction of the power, is priced attractively, and
delivers even better floating-point math performance." >>
