Here in San Diego (Cox) it's $40/month on top of your cable (tv) bill, i.e., you have to have (and pay for) a least basic cable. Install is $150 if they have to install an ethernet card, $100 if not (as is the case with any recent PowerMac).

In the situation of a stand-alone machine, no hub is required. I went ahead and got one and when I get my G3 this afternoon, I'm going to try some software IP routing so all machines on my network at home can "share" the bandwidth.

Don't tell Cox, but I'd pay $50/month.
