Why are people going to by the Celery/ Celeriac/ Celeron? First of all, somebody has to build it into a machine. As an OEM, you can design a lame machine with the sacred Intel inside, or wait 6 months for the equivalent non-lame PII. Maybe the new media maven has inside info, but the press greeted Celeron with a really big yawn.
AMD hasn't made money in who knows how long.
Two years. Two quarters if you look at it on that basis.
If they could increase production they would do it right now.
Oh, production capability can't be turned on instantaneously. I never said that. But if the demand was there, at a price that they could make money at, new fabs would be built. Plus, IBM will be producing K6 chips in 6 months or so. Not like AMD is brilliant or anything, but there will always be somebody to pick up the pieces. Like I said, I never heard of a semiconductor thing that was production bound, medium/long term.
Merced is released in tandem with NT 5
We'll see about that. Remember when you were touting Merced in tandem witn NT6? Bwwwaaaaahahahahahah. My reading is Mysterious Merced will win the race without breaking a sweat. It's going to be pricey, though, it's not going to be mainstream for years. Or maybe NT5 will ship with a strangely reduced set of "best of breed" "world class" features. Anyway, we're still waiting for a ship date for NT5B2, the enterprise beta.
No Wintel complaints please, this one is due "SOLELY" to superior management execution.
Oh, right, the usual in depth, insightful and informative Regimond analysis. Brilliant management, nothing more needs to be said. I don't in general say anything bad about Intel, they got good engineering. But I muchly doubt that PC prices are going back up anytime soon. Oh, I forgot, the Web lifestyle thing of converged internet/TV is goint to make everybody go out and spend 3k or so, tomorrow.
