Good points made by the poster. The royalty rate I am familiar with for lab testing is anywhere from 2-3%. If Karl Drobnic reads this thread, he would be in a better position to comment on this, one of the companies he follows invented a lab procedure that they get about 2.5% on. I forgot the name of the factor they tested for, but the 2.5% sticks in my mind.
