I confirmed today that the WaveMeter on display at the Seybold seminar with IBM was actually attached to an IBM Intellistation as an "add-in board". While the WaveMeter is probably intended initially for the Aptiva line for home use, the Intellistation may have been IBM's preferred machine for demo purposes because it is a top-of-the-line Windows NT workstation that is very fast with excellent 3D graphics. I have also been told that the WaveMeter has been successfully tested with the Aptiva line.

I believe that the eventual goal of Wave is to have the Meter installed on the Intel motherboard once there is a large enough volume of production required for more than one OEM. This would probably be the preference of the OEMs as well, since it would reduce the installation costs even further. I have heard that the production cost for the Meter is now down to $3 to $4 but I don't know what assumptions were made in terms of volume - maybe 1 to 4 million; maybe more?
