Mary, >>>He has to go out and perform - and therein I have
some questions that are on a par with does he have the drive to win the Triple Crown?

The last triple crown winner was Carl Yastrzemski, Boston Red Sox, 1967. Aside: I lived in Boston at the time and went to ten games at Fenway that year. Since then, we've had players like Frank Thomas, Ken Griffey Junior, Cal Ripken Junior, Tony Gwynne, Wade Boggs and several more future Hall of Famers. Will any of them ever win the triple crown? Only the first two have a chance, but I would bet not. But, they'll all make the Hall, right? You don't to have win the crown, or even be a superstar, to succeed, or even succeed wildly. More important is your "team", to use a term that's gotten into business, from sports, in the last decade, or so. Barrett's team is in first place, and will, I think, remain there, as long as his upper, mid and lower management, and development and process and manufacturing engineering remain, for the most part, intact. They seem to have a lot of the same people there that a relative of mine knew, and spoke of back in the late 70's when she worked at Intel: Vadasz, Ottelini, Bryant, Casey, Yu... David House got away, but it was to a promotion to CEO at Bay Networks. Their development and technical marketing people that I have personally worked with (not on mainframes), whether from Santa Clara, or Oregon, are first rate. It was after learning of their Pentium, PII and Pentium Pro roadmaps, and working in joint development of servers with the folks in Oregon, that I loaded up on what INTC I currently own.

So, yes, the CEO equivalent of the .300 batting average, 100
ribbies, 25-30 homeruns player could keep the company very successful. I think Barrett is better than that, or he wouldn't have been next in line at Intel. I believe he must have been ahead of House when they were both there, or House wouldn't have left. If Grove was the triple crown winner (sure he was/is) and Barrett isn't, it's not, to me, a huge deal. But, only time will tell.

Back to the triple crown, actually, Roger Clemens, formerly of the Red Sox (Arrghhh) won it last year, only it was the pitching one (Wins, ERA, K's).

About changing clothes more often, I change when my Mom tells me. <GG>

Tony
